Rebel Volleyball inks Goss, White to Letters of Intent

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss has signed two players to National Letters of Intent for the 2010 season, as Kellie Goss and Brenea White have both inked to play for the Rebels head coach Joe Getzin announced on Monday. The duo make up the 2009 signing class and will be eligible to compete with the Rebels beginning with the 2010-11 academic year. Goss comes to Ole Miss from Forest Park High School in Manassas, Va. A four-year letter-winner with Manassas, Goss was named a two-time District Player of the Year and earned All-Area Player of the Year honors. UM’s Knight Sets School Record At Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Sophomore jumper Brian Knight set a new school record and turned in an NCAA automatic mark in the high jump with a distance of 7-04.25 and Ole Miss posted six other NCAA provisional marks Saturday at the Meyo Invitational. Knight surpassed the previous school record in the high jump of 7-02.00 set by former Rebel great Savante’ Stringfellow in 1999. Knight’s mark ties him for first in the nation. SEATTLE, Wash. – Despite dropping the opening two points of the match, the 61st-ranked Mississippi State men’s tennis team made an impressive comeback to defeat No. 60 East Tennessee State Buccaneers, 5-2. With the win, MSU concluded play at the Great Northwest Shootout in Seattle, Wash., with a 1-1 ledger, and evened their record to .500 on the season with a mark of 3-3. HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss shortstop B.A. Vollmuth became the fourth Golden Eagle player to receive preseason All-American honors this season as Baseball America Magazine selected him today as their third team shortstop. Vollmuth joins Todd McInnis (NCBWA), Collin Cargill (NCBWA) and Kameron Brunty (Ping Baseball) in the preseason All-American fraternity headed into the 2010 season. BOCA RATON, Fla. – There is definitely no quit in the 2010 edition of the Delta State University baseball team. After jumping out to a 4-0 lead over the No. 10 Knights of Lynn University and seeing that lead evaporate into a 6-4 deficit, the No. 23 Statesmen came roaring back in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6. Scoreless baseball over the final two innings sent the game into extras. Tied at 6-6 after 10 innings, the game was called due to darkness. HCC’s Horatio Williams to sign with LSU track

Raymond, Miss. – Horatio Williams of Oxford, a standout in men’s track and field at Hinds Community College, will sign with the Louisiana State University Tigers in the Spring 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) signing period. The Oxford High School graduate will enroll in summer classes at LSU and will run in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes for the Tigers track team, which is a powerhouse in Division I track and field. Raymond, Miss – The Hinds Community College men’s soccer program will host tryouts 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23. The tryout is open to anyone interested in playing for the Eagles in the fall 2010 season.
