Century Club Charities announces donations through Viking Classic

MADISON, Miss. (March 8, 2010) – Century Club Charities, Inc. is pleased to announce that the 2009 Viking Classic, Mississippi’s premiere sporting event, raised $567,641.25 for local charities including the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children and the Birdies For Charity program’s 89 participating Mississippi charities. The United Way of Leflore County was the highest fundraising organization in the Birdies For Charity program. M-Braves Individual Game Tickets On Sale

Pearl, MS – The Mississippi Braves are proud to announce that individual game tickets for the M-Braves 2010 season are on sale. The Ticket Office at Trustmark Park is open 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Club seats are $16, dugout level seats are $12, field level seats are $8 and berm or standing room only tickets are $5. The M-Braves will once again have 70 home games in 2010 with the Braves opening the season at home on April 8th. Ole Miss’ Warren, Buckner Nab Postseason Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After helping Ole Miss to the program’s fifth Southeastern Conference Western Division Championship, junior guard Chris Warren and freshman forward Reginald Buckner have earned postseason honors, as the league unveiled its men’s basketball coaches awards Tuesday. Warren was named to the All-SEC second team, and Buckner received SEC All-Freshman status. Four Track and Field Rebels named All-SEC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss track and field student-athletes Rachel Jenkins, Ricky Robertson, Brian Knight and Mike Granger were all tabbed All-SEC, the conference office announced Monday. Robertson was named to the All-SEC first team and the All-Freshman team after winning the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships with an NCAA automatic height of 7-04.25. Ole Miss’ Zach Graham honored for Good Works

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss junior guard Zach Graham has been recognized for his outstanding efforts off the court, being named to the 2009-10 SEC Men’s Basketball Community Service Team on Monday. A native of Suwanee, Ga., Graham has participated in Reading with the Rebels, a program which helps promote reading to area students, and has spent time with children at local day care centers during his time at Ole Miss. He has joined teammates in visiting patients at the Blair E. Sai’Quon Stone Named to Conference USA All-Defensive Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior guard Sai’Quon Stone earned Conference USA All-Defensive honors in a vote by the league’s 12 coaches and various media, announced today by the league office in Irving, Texas. He is the first Southern Miss player to be named to the team in the four years of the award. Stone is averaging 3.7 rebounds and 0.6 steals. He has recorded five rebounds ten times this season, including seven times in conference play. He had a season-high nine rebounds at Tulane. He also had multiple steals five times. HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior forward Gary Flowers earned Second Team All-Conference USA honors in a vote by the league’s 12 coaches and various media, announced today by the league office in Irving, Texas. Flowers led the Golden Eagles this season with 14.7 points and 7.9 rebounds, good for tenth and seventh in the league. He also is fourth in C-USA in blocks with 1.8. His 53 blocks on the year are tied for the tenth most in a season at Southern Miss. The Dallas, Texas native has scored in double-figures in 26 of 30 games, including 10 straight. Southern Miss Closes First Round of Lady Jaguar Invitational

Mobile, Ala. – The Southern Miss women’s golf team sits in 11th-place after one round of the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational. The tournament is hosted by the University of South Alabama and is played at Azalea City Golf Club. Play was halted midway through the second round due to rain and lightning in the area. The Lady Eagles shot a 325, 35-over par. However, they are just seven shots back of sixth-place. Florida International leads the tournament at 13-over par, followed by Troy (+14) and Stetson (+15). Hinds track shines in NJCAA Indoors

Raymond, Miss – The Hinds Community College men’s track team competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor National Championships over the weekend, and the Eagles posted an outstanding showing. Hinds finished in sixth place overall out of 43 teams, won one individual national championship, had three NJCAA All-Americans and had eight more selected as United States Corporate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-Americans. Raymond, Miss – Two former Hinds Community College men’s track and field standouts have made the USA Indoor World Championship team that will compete in Doha, Qatar this weekend. The two athletes are Trell Kimmons of Coldwater and Jeff Henderson of Sherwood, Ark. Kimmons was a four–time national champion at Hinds from 2005-2006 and still holds the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 60m dash record with a time of 6.53 seconds.
