Century Club Charities announces donations through Viking Classic

MADISON, Miss. (March 8, 2010) – Century Club Charities, Inc. is pleased to announce that the 2009 Viking Classic, Mississippi’s premiere sporting event, raised $567,641.25 for local charities including the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children and the Birdies For Charity program’s 89 participating Mississippi charities. The United Way of Leflore County was the highest fundraising organization in the Birdies For Charity program. M-Braves Individual Game Tickets On Sale

Pearl, MS – The Mississippi Braves are proud to announce that individual game tickets for the M-Braves 2010 season are on sale. The Ticket Office at Trustmark Park is open 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Club seats are $16, dugout level seats are $12, field level seats are $8 and berm or standing room only tickets are $5. The M-Braves will once again have 70 home games in 2010 with the Braves opening the season at home on April 8th. Four Track And Field Rebels Earn All-America Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday that four Ole Miss student-athletes have received USTFCCCA All-America honors following their performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Rebel underclassmen Ricky Robertson, Brian Knight, Mike Granger and Sofie Persson were all tabbed All-Americans after finishing in the top eight in their respective events last weekend. OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss junior point guard Chris Warren was named to the 2010 All-Southeastern Conference second team by the Associated Press on Monday, adding to his growing list of postseason honors. Warren had already been selected second-team all-league by the SEC coaches and USBWA All-District IV. The 5-foot-10 sharpshooter by way of Orlando, Fla., ranks third among SEC players with a 17.2 scoring average and eighth with 3.4 assists per game. STARKVILLE, Miss. – Following an impressive SEC Tournament run in Nashville that culminated with a gut-wrenching, one-point overtime loss to No. 2 Kentucky in the finals on Sunday, Mississippi State accepted an invitation as a No. 1 seed to the NIT. The Bulldogs, who are 23-11 overall, will face Jackson State (19-12) in the opening round at 9 p.m. on Tuesday in a game televised by ESPNU. HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Department of Athletics is trying to organize a bus trip for Golden Eagle fans wishing to attend the opening round of the CollegeInsiders.com Tournament, Thursday, March 18, at Louisiana Tech. Game time is set for 7 p.m., in Ruston, La. The bus is slated to leave at 1 p.m. from Reed Green Coliseum and make a stop at Trustmark Park in Pearl for a 2:45 p.m., departure from there. IRVING, Texas – Senior pitcher Scott Copeland was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week today, selected by the C-USA office. For Copeland it is his first C-USA honor and the second time this season a Southern Miss pitcher has earned the honor as Todd McInnis earned Pitcher of the Week after his opening weekend start vs. Northwestern State. Raymond, Miss – Chris Wallace and Mark Wilkerson, both Hinds Community College men’s basketball team members of Jackson, have been selected to play in the 2010 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Star game. The men’s and women’s games will be played on the campus of East Central Community College in Decatur on Thursday, March 25. Raymond, Miss – Trell Kimmons of Coldwater, a former Hinds Community College men’s track standout, competed in the 2010 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Indoor World Championships in Doha, Qatar over the weekend, and came away with an outstanding showing. Kimmons, who starred at Hinds in 2005 and 2006, competed in the 60 meter dash event, finishing in fourth place with a time of 6.59 seconds. Hinds track shines in NJCAA Indoors

Raymond, Miss – The Hinds Community College men’s track team competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor National Championships over the weekend, and the Eagles posted an outstanding showing. Hinds finished in sixth place overall out of 43 teams, won one individual national championship, had three NJCAA All-Americans and had eight more selected as United States Corporate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-Americans.
